Models Have the Right To…

Privacy: No member of the public, including non-drawing attendees, should be able to see or interact with the model during the session. Models' personal contact details should not be shared without their knowledge and consent; agency contact details should be provided instead.

Anonymity: Models may choose to use a stage name or pseudonym.

Refuse Photography: Models can refuse photography at any time, including when clothed. All photography must be expressly consented to by the model.

Halt Session Temporarily: Models can stop the session temporarily if uncomfortable behaviour occurs (including inappropriate commentary or voyeurism) or if OHS guidelines are violated.

Termination The Session: Models can stop the session completely with full pay if inappropriate behaviour is not properly addressed or if they feel unsafe continuing. They can also refuse to begin the session if OHS guidelines are violated without rectification.

Breaks: Models have the right to take breaks as needed, including;

  • 10-30 second water and stretch break between poses.

  • 5 minute break between sustained poses (poses of 20 minutes or more)

  • 10-20 minute break in the middle of a session (length of break depends on length of session)

Refuse Unsafe Requests: Models can refuse poses that are unsafe for them to sustain or exceed a duration of 30 minutes without a break.

Clarify Instructions: Models may ask for clarification on any unclear instructions from convenors or artists.

Make Requests: Models may make requests regarding comfort, safety, temperature, pose lengths, etc., to ensure their safety and relative comfort.

Travel Compensation: Models should be compensated for travel time to and from sessions at half the agreed hourly rate.

Standard Workplace Health and Safety: Models are entitled to safe access to the venue and amenities, including access to clean drinking water. Models can refuse to use dirty or unsafe props and may request cleaning of the performance space or props if it is dirty.

Negotiate Session Boundaries: Models can negotiate the professional boundaries of a session with the convenor and artists to ensure comfort with content and conduct, including costume and concept discussions.

Device Checks: Models can request to check phones or devices if they suspect photography has occurred while they are nude. The attendee must comply for the model’s comfort and safety. Devices should have lenses covered with opaque tape if used during the session. Models may use their phones as timing devices (on airplane mode).

Models Do Not Have the Right To…

Arrive Late: Models should not arrive less than 10 minutes before the scheduled session time. If late, models may suggest a session extension or partial payment for the time completed. Convenors may choose to pay the model in full even if the full session time was not completed but models cannot request they do so.

Disregard Requests: Models must comply with reasonable requests from the convenor or artists.

Change Pose Order: Models cannot change the pose run order without the convenor’s knowledge.

End Sessions Early Without Reason: Models cannot end the session prematurely without valid reason.

Exceed Break Limits: Models should not take more than a 10-minute break between sustained long poses.

Behave Rudely: Models must maintain professionalism and decorum, even in conflict situations.

Photograph Artist’s Work: Models cannot take photos of artists' work without permission.

Use Artist’s Work Publicly: Models cannot use photos of artists' work on social media or the internet without the artist's consent. All works posted to the internet or social media must credit the artist, model, and agency unless the artist or model has requested to remain anonymous.
